Playa Venao, Panama
Trip Description
General information
Playa Venao sits on the Azuero Peninsula — a stretch of Pacific coastline that locals call Panama's Tuna Coast. A long-standing ban on commercial net fishing along this coast has kept the reefs and open water stacked with fish, and because charters here are limited, you'll often have the grounds entirely to yourself. Inshore, roosterfish and cubera snapper patrol rocky points and reef structure year-round. A few miles out, yellowfin tuna push baitfish to the surface and dorado crash through the blue. The captain cleans your catch at the end of the day. Trips depart from Playa Venao starting at 7:00 AM. All rods, reels, tackle, and live bait are included.

ReserveYou leave Playa Venao right from the beach at 7:00 AM and spend the morning working the rocky points, shallow reefs, and current breaks that line this stretch of the Azuero coast. The main target is roosterfish. They live here year-round and have a habit of trailing a popper all the way to the hull before committing — when they do, it's hard and fast. The captain also runs jigs and handlines over reef structure for cubera snapper, jack crevalle, and sierra mackerel when the surface bite goes quiet. Live blue runners are on board as backup bait for bigger fish. You're back at the dock by midday with your catch on ice.

ReserveYou depart at 7:00 AM from the beach at Playa Venao, but with a full day the captain covers the entire coastline and pushes to deeper reef systems, offshore rock structure, and areas closer to Isla Iguana. The extra hours also mean the tactics can rotate as conditions change: topwater poppers during the morning bite, speed jigging when the tide shifts, live bait drifted along the rocks in the afternoon. Roosterfish, cubera snapper, and jack crevalle are the main targets, with amberjack and grouper on the jigs. Catch is cleaned before heading in.
